Citroen Relay & Berlingo Fuel Cut-Off Switch Location & Reset Guide
Citroen Relay or Berlingo won't start after a bump? The switch location depends on the model. Relay hides it near the B-pillar; Berlingo puts it under the passenger carpet.
DrashcoCitroen Relay fuel cut-off switch location: Driver's side, near the base of the B-pillar, behind the door sill trim — or on the firewall in the engine bay on some variants.
Citroen Berlingo / C3 / C4: Passenger side footwell under the carpet, or behind the lower kick panel.
Reset: Press the red/yellow button until it clicks. Turn ignition ON 10 seconds, then start.
Your Citroen van or car cranks but won't start after a bump. The fuel cut-off switch is almost certainly the cause — and the reset takes seconds once you find it.
What makes Citroen different from most other brands: the larger vans like the Relay hide the switch in a less obvious spot than compact cars. Let's go through each model.
Let's dive right in.
In this guide, you'll learn:
Citroen Relay Fuel Cut-Off Switch Location

The Citroen Relay is the same platform as the Peugeot Expert/Traveller and Fiat Ducato (all share the Sevel platform). The fuel cut-off switch location on the Relay is:
On most Citroen Relay models (Generation 2, 2006+): Driver's side, near the base of the B-pillar (the pillar between the front and rear doors). Remove the lower door sill trim panel — it usually clips off — and the switch is mounted behind it, near where the floor meets the B-pillar. It has a red reset button on top.
On older Citroen Relay / Jumper variants: Check the engine bay on the firewall, passenger side — similar to the Vauxhall Movano. Open the bonnet and look along the firewall on the right side of the engine bay.
Citroen Relay fuel cut-off reset — Citroen Relay (diesel): Note that diesel Relay vans also have the switch fitted. After resetting, cycle the ignition ON/OFF 3–5 times to reprime the common rail before cranking.
Citroen Berlingo Fuel Cut-Off Switch Location
The Citroen Berlingo (both the passenger Multispace version and the van) uses a simpler location:
Berlingo I (1996–2008): Passenger side footwell, under the carpet near the firewall. Lift the carpet edge at the front of the footwell — the switch is on the floor pan or lower firewall.

Citroen C3 and C4 Fuel Cut-Off Switch Location
Citroen C3 (all generations): Passenger side footwell under the carpet, near the firewall. Same access method — remove mat, lift carpet edge, look for switch near the base of the firewall.
Citroen C4 (Mk1 and Mk2): Also passenger side — either footwell under carpet or behind the lower kick panel. Some C4 variants have it accessible behind the glove box. Check the footwell first.
Citroen C4 Picasso / Grand Picasso: Passenger side footwell under the carpet. The larger MPV body doesn't change the switch location.
Universal Reset Procedure for All Citroen Models
- Locate the switch using the model-specific guidance above
- Check for fuel leaks before anything else — smell the engine bay and look under the vehicle. Fuel smell or visible leakage = do not reset, recover the vehicle.
- Press the red or yellow button firmly downward until you hear/feel a click
- Turn ignition to ON (don't start) and hold for 10 seconds — you should hear the fuel pump prime
- On diesel models: cycle ignition ON/OFF 3–5 times before cranking to fully reprime the high-pressure system
- Attempt to start — allow up to 3 cranking attempts
Button won't stay pressed? The switch needs replacing. Citroen inertia switches are €10–€25 and a straight swap. On the Relay, check that the replacement switch matches the connector pin configuration — there are two common variants.
Still Won't Start After Reset?
- Citroen Relay diesel: If the common rail has fully depressurised, even 5 ignition cycles may not fully prime it. Some mechanics briefly crank the engine (5 seconds) then let it sit for 30 seconds before trying a full start — this helps draw fuel up from the tank.
- No priming sound? Check the fuel pump fuse and relay in the engine bay or dashboard fuse box. Fuse labelling varies by year — check the lid diagram or owner's manual.
- Fault codes: After an impact, scan with OBD2. Citroen BSI (Body Systems Interface) can lock out engine starting after a crash and requires a code clear to release.
- Immobiliser: The BSI on Citroens is particularly sensitive — a crash can trigger an immobiliser lockout separate from the fuel cut-off switch. A flashing or steady red LED near the steering column indicates this.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the fuel cut-off switch on a Citroen Relay?
On most Relay models (2006+): driver's side, behind the lower door sill trim at the base of the B-pillar. On older variants and some versions: on the firewall in the engine bay, passenger side. Remove the door sill trim or open the bonnet to access.
Where is the fuel cut-off switch on a Citroen Berlingo?
Passenger side footwell, under the carpet near the firewall. Remove the floor mat, lift the carpet edge at the front of the footwell, and look for a small cylindrical device with a red or yellow button on top.
Does the Citroen Relay diesel have an inertia switch?
Yes. All Relay variants including HDi and BlueHDi diesel have the inertia switch fitted. After resetting, cycle the ignition ON/OFF 3–5 times to reprime the common rail before cranking.
Can the Citroen fuel cut-off switch trip without an accident?
Yes. Particularly on older or high-mileage vehicles the switch can become sensitive and trip on rough roads, severe potholes, or even harsh speed bumps. If the Citroen intermittently refuses to start after rough road sections, check the inertia switch first.
