3 Ways How to Tell What Type of iPhone do I Have?
Today you're going to learn how to tell what kind of iPhone do I have, without contacting the Apple Support.
This is the truth about iPhone model numbers:
You probably already know if you phone model is iPhone 12, iPhone 8 or similar. But if you're downloading firmware, or want to sell your phone - this is not sufficient. You'll need the exact model number - for example A1905.
Even your mobile network operator might ask you to find out your iPhone model number when you call in to report the "sim not provisioned for voice" error.
Good thing is that if you know exactly where to look, it's quite easy (and FAST) to identify what type of iPhone model you have.
In fact, these are the exact techniques that I used to quickly tell what type of iPhone do I have.
Let's dive right in.
In this guide, you'll learn:
Tip #1: How to Tell iPhone Model Number from the iOS Settings
For newer models, simply check the model number under your iPhone settings. In fact, any iPhone 5S or later can also show the Model Name on display.
I'll cover that in a minute.
Remember that for older iPhones running iOS version older than iOS 12.2, you'll also need to use the model number list from our TIP #2 to match the iPhone model name with the model number.
For this tactic you need to make sure that your iPhone is running.
Press home button, then launch the iOS Settings and navigate to General => About => Model (or Model Number). Tap once on Model to show the model number.
Step by step tutorial on how to know what is my iPhone model:
- Navigate to Settings
- Tap General
- Go to About
- Tap the Part Number
Once there, you will see the model number shown next to the part number.

Tip #2: How to Identify iPhone Model from Back of the Phone
No, it's not printed on the glass front.
For most iPhone models, simply check the model number printed on the back of your phone.
What Does a Model Number Look Like?
It should read something like "Model A1549" in fine print (Capital A followed by numbers).
If you though - "Hey, that's easy!", this may come as a surprise for you.
Text is in so tiny print, you might be needing a magnifying glass or some extra light before you read it. Here's where to look:

Now, compare the numbers with our list below to find out which iPhone model you have:
